As the government encourage a wider participation
of vocational skills in schools, educators
are changing their status to provide opportunities
to young people.
The hairdressing and beauty therapy business
has a £460 billion global turnover
and is growing as individuals strive for
a healthier lifestyle to look and feel good
and maintain a youthful appearance.
Market demand has never been greater
for highly skilled professional therapists
to meet the demand and on educators to provide
them. Treatment services from a simple manicure
to the advanced electrical therapy applications,
that just a few years ago were only carried
out by medical professionals. As with the
advances of technology, treatment application
and products, the media activity of any
new innovative anti ageing treatment creates
the need of the consumer for the desired
effects of such treatment applications,
who in turn rely on their therapist to provide
Educators working with young people who
show a natural flair and an interest to
work in our industry in some capacity require
good foundation training to enable them
to have the knowledge, understanding and
skill to make a career choice. A career
can be through science developing new products
and treatment applications, working in sales,
retail, media, advisor, a demonstrator or
working hands on as a therapist in a salon
or spa facility anywhere in the world.
TLT recognise the pressure on educators
to provide therapy training, whilst working
within the parameters of a schools safeguarding
policy and have therefore designed a range
of training aids, the Tilly Head and PTUs
or Practical Therapy Units, for learners
to work on and develop their skills without
the need for models.
The Tilly Head and PTU range are durable,
versatile, life like and offer a range of
movement found in the human form making
the range a must have for the modern classroom.
TLT are working in partnership with VTCT,
an awarding organisation, who fully endorse
the Tilly Head and range of PTUs.
The TLT schools introductory pack contains
a Tilly Head, three make-up masks in a light,
medium and dark skin tone, a pair of hands
and arms and a pair of feet and legs. Schools
working with the Tilly range have found
them to be a great asset to learning, which
was reflected in their Ofsted report, as
Ofsted like that the range encourages full
learner participation with every learner
working at every lesson, rather than the
typical scenario of learners modelling for
each other where only one of the learners

Tilly and the entire range of TLT PTU
are life-like and should be handled with great care. TLT advise that the TLT
PTU are stored in the specifically designed
TLT PTU Storage bag.
Use of Products and Equipment:
The TLT PTUs should be
handled in the same way that you would handle a live model; with the utmost
care. Whilst their primary use is for learners to perfect their treatment application,
gain confidence and learn new techniques, the TLT PTU
also encourage the learner to apply the same level of client dignity as they
would a live model.
Use of Products and Equipment:
We recognise an expensive salon product is wasted on
Tilly and the TLT PTU, as unlike a live model
the TLT PTU are not organic and do not have
an allergenic skin. Therefore changes to the skin's condition post treatment
will not be evident, as you would expect to see on a live model, and you will
obviously not get any client feedback as to the effects of the medium used.
The TLT PTU can be cleansed
using any of the cleansing products that would normally be acceptable for use
on human skin. For demonstration and practise purposes exfoliating scrubs and
masks can be used directly onto the TLT PTU
surface without causing damage, simple warm soapy water will also effective
to cleanse the TLT PTU. We recommend the use
of Anti-bacterial wipes to reduce the risk of cross infection prior to use.
Use of Electrical Equipment
The TLT PTU Electrolysis
Probing Mask and Underarm and Bikini Probing Pad are excellent tools for the
learner to perfect their probing techniques. There is no benefit in the current
being used and therefore we advise the current is switched OFF whilst working
with the TLT PTU Probing materials.
